Yellow Jug Old Drugs ® is a program operated by Great Lakes Clean Water Organization to collect and properly dispose of unwanted/unused drugs in a safe and approved manner to help keep our water clean.
To help, bring in unused/unwanted/expired drugs to your local participating pharmacy for proper disposal. Both prescription and over-the-counter drugs are accepted – pills, ointments, liquids and creams. THIS SERVICE IS FREE as the cost is supported by your local pharmacy. Donations are appreciated and may be designated to a specific city or pharmacy. To help support this service in your community, visit our Support Page.
The Yellow Jug Old Drugs ® containers and contents are picked up at pharmacies and are then transported to a Waste-to-Energy facility for secure and assured destruction.
As of Sept 2014, we have collected and properly disposed of 52 tons of Rx-waste.
The program which began in Michigan in 2008 is now available in Illinois Wisconsin and Indiana. We will soon be offering Yellow Jug Old Drugs in Ohio, Pennsylvania and New York. Plans are also underway to offer this important service to pharmacies in other states.
